DFA: Renew Philippine passports 1 year before it expires


The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) urges all Philippine passport holders to renew passports 1 year before it expires.


The DFA will no longer accept applications to extend e-Passports which is in compliance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). In line with the compliance, passports must be renewed one year before it expires.

E-passports has integrated chips within its pages that keep the passport holder's information in accordance with ICAO specifications.


DFA recommends to have your Philippine passport renewed if:

1. You have an expired passport which Philippine passports now have a 10 years validity.

2. A frequent traveler and already used a half of the passport pages 

3. Your passport has one year or less than one year of validity 

4. You are married and you want to change the maiden name un your passport to your married name

  1. Pano po Yung sakin September 15 2020 pa maexpired passport ko at nandito ako sa KSA Saudi ngayon balak ko irenew ng March which is 6 months before expiration
