Firing pregnant foreign workers in Taiwan is illegal; employers can be fined NT$1.5 million

Taiwan employers cannot just terminate the contracts of pregnant foreign workers in the country or force them to leave Taiwan making it illegal, according to the Ministry of Labor.

It is illegal for employers to terminate or revoke foreign migrant workers contract as violators can be fined as much as NT$1.5 million.

Also, employers cannot terminate workers who have given birth or are raising children while working in Taiwan, added by the Ministry of Labor.

The Act of Gender Equality in Employment and the Regulations Governing Management of the Health Examination of Employed Aliens prohibit employers from discriminating or firing foreign workers if they are pregnant or give birth during their employment in Taiwan.

Employers are also banned from early termination of contracts or forcing the worker to leave the country if they are pregnant or give birth. The worker may stay in Taiwan along with their children who are capable of raising them in the country in their time of employment.

Any migrant workers that were not treated properly by their employers can call the toll-free hotline 1955 for help and the ministry will go to help.
