Hundreds of migrant workers in Taiwan took to the streets of Taipei on Sunday (Dec 8), which their main goal is to abolish the employment brokerage system in Taiwan, reported by Central News Agency.

The group of migrant workers are calling for Taiwan's major political parties to help them remove these brokers and enforce government to government hiring.

The migrant workers group marched from outside the headquarters of the main political opposition Kuomintang (KMT) to the headquarters of the current ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and then to the Ministry of Labor.

The rally was arranged by Migrants Empowerment Network in Taiwan (MENT) which were collaboration of 10 migrant rights groups.

"We pay large amounts to manpower agencies to process our papers, and we continue to pay monthly (service) fees to the broker while we work, which is a very big burden for us," Gilda Banugan, Filipino, told CNA in a interview.

The Ministry of Labor once said thay placement agencies or brokers in Taiwan were not allowed to collect placement fees from migrant workers but only can charge for a monthly basis. (Photos cortesy of CNA)
