Petition re-surfaces online to rename NAIA back to Manila International Airport

An online petition is on the rise to bring back Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to its original name of Manila International Airport (MIA).

"Ninoy Aquino is not a hero/patriot for inspiration and emulation of this generation and generations still unborn.  He was clearly a POLITICIAN and by naming the Philippine’s main airport to his name is an insult to all Filipino heroes who died for the country,” according to Roy Domingo who started the petition online thru Change.org.

The petition needs 150,000 signatures ro bring it to the senators.

Back in 1987, Manila International Airport (MIA) was renamed to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) through Republic Act No. 6639 which was enacted without executive approval on November 27, 1987, written on the site.

  6. To my opinion, I think NAIA should be rename back to MIA. But before renaming it back,...the deposed president Marcos has to return the 10B dollars he embezzled from the Philippines!...

  19. What's the point of naming it to the person who died there? DID he bestow any forms of kindness and solitude of the people's misery in that airport? Anyways, you can just remember him who died on that airport, but why change to its specific name than the place? It's very communistic!
