DFA: OFWs exempted from travel ban, can now return in Hong Kong and Macau

Filipinos who are working in Hong Kong and Macau can now return to their jobs which are exempted from the travel ban announced by Department of Affairs.

OFWs traveling to China’s Special Administrative Regions are exempted from Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases’ (IATF-EID) travel ban, tweeted by Brigido Dulay, DFA Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concern.

“Today, DFA Sec Locsin’s advocacy has come true. OFWs returning for work in Hong Kong and Macau have been exempted from the outbound travel ban by the IATF-EID, subject to certain procedural formalities,” Dulay said.

Thousands of OFWs bound for Hong Kong and Macau were left stranded in the Philippines for more than two weeks.

There are more than 210,000 Filipinos working in Hong Kong and 32,000 OFWs in Macau.
