Ministry of Labor: Taiwan brokers are not allowed to charge placement fee twice

Taiwan staffing agencies or better known as brokers are not allowed to charge placement fee twice when renewing a contract or company transfer according to the Ministry of Labor (MOL).

The the placement fee must not be charged twice if a migrant worker or caregiver changes employers or renews an expired contract with the same employer, MOL clarified.

Violators will face a maximum fine which will be 20 times the amount that the migrant workers/caregivers are charged and a temporary suspension of manpower business for three months or higher can also be included.

Additionally, after a vacation or the "one day exit," agencies are not allowed to collect payments to the migrant workers.

The ministry urged those being overcharged or charged a placement fee twice, to call the complaint hotline 1955, which is available in several languages such as Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese and English.
