Taiwan now has 393 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 5 new infection

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced on Monday (April 13) five new cases of Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total to 393.

Health Minister and CECC head Chen Shih-chung confirmed five new cases of coronavirus, all of which were imported from abroad. The new cases included three women and two men aged between 50 and 60, four of whom had been passengers aboard the ill-fated Coral Princess cruise ship, while the fifth was a relative of case No. 384.

According to the CECC, cases 389 through 392 along with three other relatives and friends are part of a cluster infection of seven. The seven visited the U.S., Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, and Chile on Feb. 15 and boarded the Coral Princess in Chile on March 5.

The CECC pointed out that  a total of 1,898 persons were originally aboard the ship, including 1,020 passengers and 878 crew members. On April 7, the CECC received notice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that there were seven Taiwanese nationals onboard.

During a lighter moment at the beginning of the press conference, Chen wore a pink mask as he responded to a report of school children mocking a boy who wore a pink mask by saying that the colors are not important and "everyone can wear them." Chen said that "pink is not bad" and he quipped that during his youth he enjoyed watching the "Pink Panther."
