Philippines seeks to partner with Taiwan for ‘travel bubble’ to revive tourism

The Philippines planning a travel bubble partnership with Taiwan and 2 other East Asian countries, this will allow tourists to visit the country’s tourist destinations according to a tourism official.

According to Undersecretary Benito Bengzon Jr, the East-Asian countries expressed interest in coming to the Philippines, like the island paradise Boracay and Bohol province.

“Pag nagbukas na ang border natin and we’re able to pursue itong travel corridors, most likely doon sa mga bansang binanggit ko manggagaling ang ating mga turista,” Bengzon said in n interview at Cignal TV’s Agenda.

“The approach has to be slow but sure,” Bengzon added, the government will closely monitor the situation in the tourist destination areas to prevent any spike of cases.

Travel bubbles are exclusive partnerships formed between two countries to facilitate international travel in selected destinations. Aside from Taiwan, Philippines is also looking for a travel bubble with Japan and South Korea.

The proposal comes months after non-essential travel was banned due the coronavirus pandemic.
