DepEd says is not fair to pass all the student due to COVID-19 pandemic

According to a report by Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday, the Department of Education (DepEd) said the recommendation to pass all students due to the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic was not fair.

DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said that despite obstacles, many learners are doing their best to pass, although some students do not take their studies seriously.

Implementing a no fail policy would not teach children responsibility, he added.

For San Antonio, learners will have more motivation in their studies once they see their grades.

The DepEd agreed to restart classes through blended learning because of the COVID-19 threat, where learners do not have to go to school to participate in classes to prevent potential transmission of the virus.

It also eliminated about 60 percent of the curriculum to change this school year, which began October 5, for the remote learning method.

Via self-learning courses, broadcast media, and the internet, the department has prepared ways to offer education to students.

In view of the difficulties faced by professors, students, and teachers over distance learning, some groups called for academic freezing.

Nevertheless, DepEd only proposed an education facility to reduce the workload of students and educators.
