Taiwanese group donates food to poor households in Philippines

A Taiwanese business association has donated rice and vegetables to 325 poor households in Rizal province which have been isolated due to lockdown brought by the coronavirus pandemic.

Based on the report of CNA, a delegation from the Taiwanese Association Philippines Youth Chapter (TAPYC) traveled to the mountainous Calawis area to give the food to the isolated families.

According to a French-based NGO active in the region, none of the households has refrigerator nor electricity making it more difficult for them to survive in the challenges caused by the pandemic.

It was also reported that majority of them have lost their source of income as they have been restricted to enter Manila to sell their local products due to lockdown.

TAPYC originally planned to hand over canned goods for the families but they were advised by a local group to buy fresh food instead so as to help filipino farmers and the environment, CNA reported.
