Detained activist's baby dies due to pneumonia; groups call for release


 

A three-month-old baby who has been seperated from her detained activist mother, Reina Mae Nasino, already died on Friday (September 9), said organization of families and friends of political prisoners, Friday.


Baby River passed away at the Intensive Care Unit of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) at 8:50 p.m. due to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, according to Kapatid.


The group is now urging the court to release Nasino  to correct the "blatant injustice done to her and her baby who was never given a chance to live." 


Nasino was put behind bars after getting charged illegal possession of firearms.


She gave birth to River on July 1 and pleaded to stay with the child until she is one year old but she was not allowed by the Manila court.
