ABS-CBN shutdown puts 'many people in the dark' during typhoon, criticisms say

Even though four months have already passed since the shutdown of the giant ABS-CBN pushed through, many are still in argument about how the network left a significant impact to many Filipinos especially during a catastrophe like a super typhoon.

Even Former elections commissioner Goyo Larrazabal expressed his opinion by saying that there are "so many people are in the dark" because of ABS-CBN's shutdown.

ABS-CBN during its operation used to have 21 regional stations, with an estimated reach of 70 million viewers and listeners across the country.

With these, Journalism professor Danilo Arao said that ABS-CBN left a big gap on information dessimination  even though many media organizations are on top of typhoon coverage.

Former Vice President Jejomar Binay, on the other hand, claimed that the shutdown of ABS-CBN "should give use all a vital lesson."

"That political decisions, especially those intended to exact a steep price for criticisms of government policies and personalities or to redress a real or imagined personal insult, can have far-reaching and even tragic consequences on the lives of ordinary Filipinos," Binay said.
