How to Apply UMID: Simple steps you need to follow

In the form of the UMID ID, the Philippine government has effectively attempted to combine a member's SSS, GSIS, Pag-Ibig, and PhilHealth records into a single card. Here’s how to get a UMID ID in the Philippines.

What is a UMID ID?

UMID means Unified Multi-purpose Identification and often called UMID Card. The Unified Multi-Purpose ID (UMID) is a four-in-one identification card used by Filipinos to interact with government agencies such as the Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), PhilHealth, and the Pag-IBIG Fund.

In most transactions, the UMID is recognized as a legitimate ID, making it one of the most popular IDs in the Philippines. Unlike having a passport, however, applying for a UMID card is much simpler and faster, particularly for recent college graduates beginning their first job.

Want to know how to get your UMID ID? Here are the important things to keep in mind before you start with your UMID card application.

1. You Have to Apply Personally

Registration process would be available. No proxies or delegates are permitted. You must apply in person at any SSS or GSIS branch, which may be inconvenient for Filipinos with busy schedules. However, it makes sense because the government has to verify your identity to ensure that you only receive one card. You need to be there to have your photo, digital signature, and fingerprints taken. No other way to do that than you making a personal appearance for your UMID ID registration.

2. Make Sure You Meet All UMID ID Requirements

UMID cards are free of charge for first-time applicants who meet these criteria:

• No existing SSS ID or UMID card

• Paid at least one-month SSS contribution

• A valid date of coverage (the date you started as an active member per SSS records)

All who wish to change their old SSS ID or have lost it must pay a repair fee of PHP 200 to the SSS branch where they can apply for a UMID card.

Required Documents for SSS members:

• Accomplished SSS UMID card application form

• Original or certified true copy of any of the following: passport, driver’s license, Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) card, or Seaman’s Book.

• If you don’t have any of these IDs, you may present an ATM card with your name, bank account passbook, or birth/baptismal certificate. For other secondary ID cards and documents, visit the SSS website.

3. How to Get UMID ID

SSS is the primary entity in charge of issuing UMID cards to private-sector employees, while GSIS is in charge of processing UMID applications for government workers. If you work for a private organization, you must apply for a UMID card at an SSS branch. Apply at a GSIS branch if you work for the government.

Here are the steps on how to get a UMID ID card for SSS members and GSIS members:

How to Get UMID ID for SSS members

Step 1: Download and fill out the UMID card application form. Before doing so, read the instructions on the last page of the UMID registration form. There should be no erasures or corrections. When you’re done, double-check the form to ensure you’ve done the following:

• Filled out all fields correctly.

• Provided at least one contact detail (phone number or email address.)

• Provided your permanent address instead of a temporary address.

• Indicated your preferred SSS-accredited bank for enrolling your UMID as an ATM card.

Step 2: Send your application and supporting documentation to the SSS branch closest to you.

Take note that not all SSS branches have the infrastructure in place to handle UMID applications. Check out the full list of SSS branches with UMID enrollment facilities to find the nearest branch where you can apply for a UMID ID card.

Step 3: Take a picture of yourself, your fingerprints, and your signature. An SSS representative will ask you to go to the booth after checking your papers, where your photo will be taken, your fingerprints checked, and your digital signature recorded.

Step 4: Pay the UMID card fee

You must pay a PHP 200 replacement charge and send a notarized affidavit of loss for missing cards only if you're replacing your old SSS ID or upgrading the details on your UMID wallet. SSS affiliate banks such as EastWest Bank, Land Bank, RCBC, Security Bank, and UnionBank accept payments for UMID card replacement.

If you’re applying for a UMID ID card for the first time, you are not required to pay. New UMID card applications are free of charge.

Step 5: Wait for your card to be delivered.

Applicants should expect to obtain their UMID card within 30 days of submitting their submission, according to the SSS

SSS will release your UMID within eight working days after a satisfactory submission and data capture. Within two weeks (Metro Manila) or four weeks (outside Metro Manila), it will be delivered to your address through Philpost (outside Metro Manila).

Step 6: Activate your UMID ID card.

By activating your UMID card, you can access information and receive notifications about your SSS Salary Loan, benefits, and donations. Your card can be activated at any SSS branch or at select mall kiosks.

How to Get UMID ID for GSIS Members

2. Submit two valid IDs and the accomplished application form to the GSIS staff in the eCard enrollment area.

3. Wait for a text message from GSIS about where you can claim your UMID card.

Finding out how to obtain a UMID ID is an easy operation. Your patience will be put to the ultimate test during the waiting period. To control your standards, learn everything there is to know about the UMID card application.

However, once you obtain your UMID Card, the long wait will be worthwhile. Your UMID ID card is useful when you need to withdraw your SSS benefits or salary loan proceeds, in addition to providing an additional valid ID.
