Caretakers, Domestic Helpers In Taiwan To Raise Minimum Wage to NT19,000?

The minimum wage of caretakers, caregivers, domestic helpers currently seats at NT$ 17,000 or around Php28,500 per month. A closed door meeting from labor chiefs of Taiwan have been held concerning the the rights of migrant workers in Taiwan, specially the dometic household workers.

Indonesian Minister of Manpower arrived in Taiwan to have a talk and raise concerns of fellow countrymen. Indonesian domestic helpers tops the chart in terms of numbers of migrant workers in Taiwan, Philippines comes second.

The Indonesian government open up and requesting a raise for the caregivers, caretakers and domestic helpers from NT$17,000 to NT$19,000 (Php32,000). If one group raises minimum wage, therefore all domestic helpers will have a raise if it will be approved by the Taiwan government.

This group of workers are not inuded in Taiwan's Labor Standards Act and earn less than who work in factories like electronics, semiconductor, textile and others.

There are about 253,000 plus caregivers, caretakers and  household workers in Taiwan that mainly come from Indonesia (193,187) while others from the Philippines (31,600) and Vietnam (28,392).

  6. if the old contract worker will not benefit with this..the it is useless...like we my friends have signed already the new again contract...so if ever we will wait the 3yrs before to benefit the increase?be reasonable...pleased...we are having a hard time with the work...its unfair if only the bew comer would received the increased it should be automatically up even we sign up new...they can notify the employers right?

  10. How about us filipino's caretaker/caregiver?If the Taiwan government increase the salary of indonesians and the philippine are not i think its very, very unfair! We are all foreign workers here in your country and besides its not very easy our work as a caregiver.I will call the attention of taiwan government please be fair for all the caregiver/caretaker in your country. If the one group increase their salary and indonesian only?how about us a philipine and vietnamese?we are all foreign workers here

  14. Supposedly if giving the increase automatically for all contract workers not the only works from Indonesia and not only the workers who signed a new contract.automatically for old and new.... It's very unfair if for the only new worker's who is signed a new contract .....

  18. That would be glad, actually ofw here in taiwan has no weekly off, however some other are not allowed to have day off according to thier employer! Not is that fair for reasoning that there is no one will take care thier patients if the worker took off! There is a lot of things that goverment must know and why we pilipino's deserved to be raise our monthly salary, first things some employer are not giving enough food, not allowing to take rest or to take off, working 24/7 and not even free medical from our employer, midecal should be shoulder by the employer.
Hope this concern will concieve by the government in taiwan!

  23. 24/7 workmode but the salary is not enough, very unfair.17,000 taiwan dollar, plus the fact not all employers are generous enough to take initiative to give a raise and not all employers are generous when it comes to food.
