Taiwan Starts Manual Checking Of Hand Carry From Arrivals From Philippines


Passengers arriving at the Taoyuan International airport from the Philippines will be subject to hand luggage checks. This is for the measure not to bring meat products to Taiwan, reported by Central News Agency.


This new rule alrewdy started when reliable information saw that there recent outbreaks of the African  Swine Fever in Bulacan and Rizal provinces in the Philippines.

The officials decided to begin searches on the hand luggage of travelers from the Philippines on both tourists and migrant workers entering Taiwan. Other airports in Taiwan are already checking all international passengers' hand luggage upon their arrivals.


Though there are still no official reports of such outbreaks from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). 

The countries and areas listed for strict checkings were China, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, North Korea, South Korea, and Russia as Philippines joins the list.

Update 09/10: Philippines Department Of Agriculture confirms that 14 out of 20 blood samples of the pigs that eventually dies are positive from African Swine Fever.
