67-year old Filipino woman listed as 2nd death in the Philippines due to coronavirus


A 67-year-old Filipino woman is the Philippines is listed as the second death due to novel coronavirus or COVID-19, announced by the Department of Health (DOH).


She is the first Filipino national to die of COVID-19. The woman was admitted at Manila Doctors Hospital after showing symptoms on February 29, she tested positive for the virus on March 11.

She was among the 16 new cases announced  on March 11. The woman is the second COVID-19 death in the Philippines so far, but is the first Filipino fatality in the country. 

The Philippines has reported that 49 people have caught COVID-19, with two Chinese nationals who were infected having recovered and another Chinese national dying.

Health officials advised that frequent hand washing and wearing face masks in crowded places can help ward off the disease.


President Duterte placed the country under a State of Public Health Emergency following the surge of the COVID-19 cases in the country, the confirmation of its local transmission and the second fatality of the virus.
