8 recoveries from COVID-19 and discharged from hospitals comfirmed in the Philippines

The health department announced that one new patient has recovered from the disease increasing the recoveries to 8.

The patient is a 28-year-old Filipino male from Cavite. He has a travel history from Japan and was admitted to the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine on March 7. He was discharged after testing negative for COVID-19 twice.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire noted those who recovered are not those classified as vulnerable. They have no other comorbidities and also did not suffer some complications. They also belong to the age group of below 50 years old, and did not stay long in the hospital (average of 6 to 8 days).

Based on the new decision tool of the DOH, individuals manifesting severe symptoms, elderly people, and those with underlying conditions would be tested for COVID-19.

The total number of recoveries in the Philippines now stands at 8 and the total number of fatalities in the country is 18.
