Taiwan ranked 1st as happiest country in East and Southeast Asia, Philippines at 52nd regionally


Taiwan has been ranked as the happiest country in all East and Southeast Asia countries in a global happiness report released by a United Nations-affiliated organization, CNA reported.


The happiness criteria was based on such GDP per capita, social support, life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.

Regionally, Taiwan topped its neighbors Singapore, which was ranked 31st, the Philippines (52nd), Thailand (54th), South Korea (61st), Japan (62nd), and Hong Kong (78th).

Countries finishing back are Mongolia (81st), Malaysia (82nd), Vietnam (83rd), Indonesia (84th), China (94th), Laos (104th), Cambodia (106th), and Myanmar (133rd).


The World Happiness Report is a landmark survey of the state of global happiness that ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be.

Worldwide the top five are Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, and Norway where Taiwan ranked 25th and Philippines at 69th.
