Acer and Asus boost in sales despite surging COVID-19 pandemic

The two best computer brands in Taiwan the Acer and Asustek Computer , both reported on Friday an increase in sales due to more people working and learning remotely, which boosts demand for computer equipment, making good for the economic impact from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Acer said it posted NT$19.75 billion in merge sales up to 41.1 percent from a year. On the other hand, Asustek announced its merge sales for the month rose 13.7 percent from a year earlier to NT$22.74 billion.

Acer said although this coronavirus pandemic had forced many consumers to stay at home, the company benefited from solid demand because of an increase in online working while Acer said sales of its Chromebook notebook computers rose 327.9 percent from a year earlier in April.

Acer took a 5.6 percent share of the world's PC market in the first quarter, ranking as the fifth largest vendor in the world, ahead of Asustek, which shipped 2.60 million units for a 5.0 percent share, grabbing sixth place, the global market information advisory firm Gartner Inc said.
