6-month-old baby in Bulacan, accidentally vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine

A 6-month-old baby from Bulacan was reportedly accidentally vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine.  The midwife who vaccinated the baby made a mistake with the selection of vaccine.

Instead of the pneumonia vaccine for the baby, the midwife from the health center picked up a COVID-19 vaccine and was vaccinated to the 6-month old baby.

According to DOH Undersecretary Dr.  Myrna Cabotaje, they are already investigating the incident. This is to find out what caused the mistake.

“Kailangang imbestigahang mabuti kung gross negligence naman 'yan o may mga factors. In terms of the adverse event, wala naman nai-report pang kakaibang naramdaman yung bata. But we will continue to monitor the child," Dr. Cabotaje said.

Because of what happened, said Dr.  Cabotaje they will further tighten the rules and practices carried out on vaccination.

“So dahil dito kailangang pag-ibayuhin natin ang ating mga practices. Ang aming patakaran iba dapat ang refrigerators ng COVID-19 vaccines sa regular vaccines. We will check again and we will remind our implementers na hiwalay dapat ang paglalagyan at malaki ang label para hindi sila malito," Dr. Cabotaje added.
