POEA: OFWs not allowed to travel to Taiwan amid travel ban

Filipino migrant workers have been banned from leaving for Taiwan amid the novel coronavirus outbreak according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

The ban was imposed on Monday night following the Department of Health’s confirmation that the travel restrictions imposed by Malacañang also covered Taiwan,  said POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia.

The temporary travel restrictions for all foreigners coming from China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan also apply to all Filipinos departing for the same countries, GMA News reported.

Olalia assured that the affected Filipino workers will be given due assistance.

With almost all flight going Taiwan are being cancelled, returning and newly hired OFWs may lose their job of not returned on given time.

Department of Lobor and Employment (DOLE) assures enough government measures to assist those who will be affected in the imposed travel ban by the Philippines.
