2 more COVID-19 Filipino frontliners died, a cardiologist and a doctor to the 'barrios'


Philippines lost another 2 frontliners in battle of the coronavirus or COVID-19. Dr. Raul Diaz Jara and Dr. Marcelo Jaochico loss the fight against the deadly virus.


Dr. Raul Diaz Jara, a "great pillar" of the Philippine cardiology, an esteemed cardiologist and internist who was on the frontline of the country's battle against COVID-19 died on Tuesday (March 23) as confirmed by the Philippine Heart Association (PHA) said.

He also served as president of the Philippine Heart Association. Neither PHA nor Jara's family disclosed the cause of death.

“One who has spent his life teaching. One who never got tired to impart knowledge and wisdom... Rest in peace, Dr Jara, as we remember you in our hearts and the teachings you have imparted to us. We deeply mourn for your loss but we want this more to be a celebration of your life. Philippine Cardiology will not be the same without you," the PHA wrote.


Dr. Marcelo Jaochico served as the provincial health officer of Pampanga. He was also a former doctor to the "barrios" amd communities. He passed away on March 24, 2020 due to COVID-19.

In a social media post, his daughter Cielo said, “Please do not remember him as someone who just died because of COVID-19. Sobrang dami niyang ginawa para sa bayan.”

Several other frontliners have succumbed to COVID-19. Cardiologist Israel Bactol of the Philippine Heart Center, anesthesiologist Gregorio Macasaet III of Manila Doctors Hospital, and oncologist Rose Pulido of the San Juan de Dios Hospital have passed away recently.
