President Duterte formally approves extension of enhanced community quarantine until April 30

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles confirms that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) said that President Rodrigo Duterte formally approved the extension of enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

The extension will be until 11:59pm of April 30. Several lawmakers, oppositions, health workers and scientists supports this decision.

The restriction on most people’s movement outside their homes, except for buying essential goods, was meant to curb the spread of the contagious disease.

This was in hopes of flattening the curve, or making the increase of confirmed cases more manageable so that hospitals and frontline workers could cope with the emergency.

The numbers reported by the Department of Health show that the increase in cases accelerated during the quarantine period, although this was attributed by DOH officials to more tests being conducted.
