16-day-old baby survives COVID-19; now the youngest recovery in PH


A 16-day-old baby has recovered from the new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), making him the youngest survivor of the disease in the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) announced on Thursday (April 30).


In a Facebook post, the DOH introduced the baby survivor and thank all the frontliners at the National Children's Hospital for taking care the infant for 11 days.

"Meet BABY SURVIVOR, a 16-day old baby who conquered COVID-19! Our frontliners at the National Children’s Hospital tirelessly took care of the neonate for 11 days and successfully nursed him back to health!” the DOH said.

The baby named Kobe Manjares was only five days old when admitted to the hospital due to constipation and fever. Doctors gave the newborn antibiotics and confirmed that he has COVID-19 on his 9th day in the health facility.

Meanwhile, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire revealed in an early media briefing on Thursday, that there were already 25 infants in the country who have contracted the disease and six of them already died.
