Taiwan lawmakers punch, kick and shove each other during a voting at the parliament in Taipei

Taiwanese lawmakers punch, kick and shove each other during a voting at the parliament in Taipei on July 17, 2020.

The brawl erupted after opposition lawmakers protested against the Taiwan President's nomination of a former secretary general of the President Office to the top position of Taiwan’s watchdog body of other branches of government.

The Legislature on Friday approved the appointment of Chen Chu as head of the Control Yuan, after days of discord between the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and opposition Kuomintang (KMT) over her nomination, CNA reported.

Chen was the first of President Tsai Ing-wen's 27 nominees for the Control Yuan to gain confirmation.

Chen is the former mayor of Kaohsiung and former secretary-general of the Presidential Office.
