Former Philippine President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino 3rd died early this morning today (June 24).
The former president had been under medication for an illness accoding to the source.
Aquino served as the 15th president of the Philippines from 2010 until 2016.
The only son of the late president Corazon Aquino and senator Benigno Aquino Jr. was chairman of the Liberal Party from 2010 to 2016.
Prior to hos death, Aquino was brought to the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City earlier this morning.
The news was shared by a senator who requested anonymity as he was not in a position to make the official statement.
