Philippines may scrap "mask policy" comes Christmas per expert

Maskless Christmas could be possible if herd immunity will be achieved according to OCTA Research molecular biologist Fr. Nicanor Austriaco.

The priest-scientist said if there will be enough vaccine supplies by September and October, the NCR Plus 8 areas may achieve containment by October and herd immunity by November.

NCR Plus 8 areas include Metro Manila, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao.

33 million vaccine doses should be given to 40 to 50% of NCR Plus 8 population, Austriaco explained.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque agrees.

“Kaya nga po we are aiming for population protection or yung containment na sinasabi ni Fr. Austriaco kasi alam natin sa mga bansang nakamit yung containment, hindi na sila nagmamask at least sa outdoors gaya po ng Israel at ibang lugar sa Amerika. That is what we’re aiming for. Tama po si Fr. Austriaco, a mask-less Christmas,” Roque said in a press briefing.
