Taiwanese rated as highest rate in the world that suffers “Asian Flush”


Asian flush happens during the metabolism of alcohol intake in the body. Taiwanese suffer from "Asian flush" and it is the highest rate in the world with 45 to 47 percent.


The study was made Stanford University, people who easily become flushed, may have genetic change of the enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) that is responsible for the absorption of alcohol.

That situation is responsible for what stated to as the "Asian Alcohol Facial Flushing Syndrome" or "Asian flush".

Mostly Asians are affected to the Asian Flush with Taiwanese have the highest rate followed by Chinese with 35%, Japanese with 30% and 20% for Koreans.

Asian flush may experience a deep blushing of the face, may also experience heart palpitations, nausea, vomiting, and other forms of physical discomfort.


Stanford study described Asian flush as the most common human enzymopathy, or disorder leading to missing or defective enzymes. With a total 8% of the total population in the world experience this syndrome.
