Taiwan hits 169 total COVID-19 cases, another patient came positive after travel to Philippines

A total of 16 new coronavirus cases, 13 of which originated overseas, were confirmed in Taiwan on Sunday, bringing the total number to 169 since the outbreak began, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said.

These patients entered Taiwan between March 10 and March 20 and displayed symptoms between March 7 and March 20.

The countries these patients had traveled to before the onset of disease include Denmark, France, Egypt, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Most of the patients went overseas for study or work, while several of them went abroad for travel or visiting relatives.

Among the new patients, three are believed to have contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) locally, said Health Minister Chen Shih-chung, CNA reported.
