Tourism industry in Philippines expected to return to normalcy in 2021

The tourism sector is expected to go back on track by the year 2021, based on the Philippine Tourism Survey: Covid-19 Edition conducted by Isla Lipana & Co./PwC Philippines (PwC), joined by 247 industry players in the country.

The survey was also facilitated in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, as part of the firm's commitment in supporting the programs and initiatives of the DOT.

Of all the respondents, results showed that 63 percent of the tourism players positively think that their businesses will return to normal next year.

In the survey, the tourism players were also asked about the challenges and concerns brought about by the pandemic as well as the implemented ECQ in Luzon and other parts of the country.

It was then found that 88 percent of the respondents expect losses of over 50 percent of their 2020 revenues due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) while 97 percent say that coronavirus has the potential for significant impact on their business operations.

Meanwhile, the DOT has made a promise that it will help tourism businesses through its financial support and policies, which are covered in the DOT’s Tourism Response and Recovery Program.
