Taiwan re-imposed mandatory wearing of face mask on public transportation

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) on Wednesday announced stricter COVID-19 control measures for public transportation amid the intensifying pandemic situation worldwide.

Passengers using Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) and Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) services will now have to wear masks as soon as they enter the stations instead of just before they pass through the turnstiles, the MOTC said.

Those who refuse to cooperate could be fined up to NT$15,000 (US$531), the ministry said.

The frequency of sanitization will be increased from once every two hours to once an hour at TRA stations, while similar measures in post offices will be increased from twice a day to four times a day, it said.

Meanwhile, sanitization in bus terminals and inside buses will be carried out as normal once every six hours, but increased to once every four hours on holidays, according to the ministry.
