Taiwan seeks to hire migrant workers to a new Southeast Asian country: MOL

Taiwan Labor Minster Hsu Ming-chun said that the country is seeking to recruit migrant workers from a Southeast Asian nation that does not currently provide the country with foreign workers.


This is the miniter's response when asked on about the government plans to expand hiring of migrant workers from other country, this come after the announcement of a temporary ban of Indonesian migrant workers.


Taiwan hopes to sign a memorandum of understanding with the country next year and be able to recruit migrant workers by 2022.


Hsu declined to name the nation. The number of migrant workers in Taiwan was 701,240 in the lastest data as of October 2020.


The 37.79 percent of migrant workers came from Indonesia, 32.58 from Vietnam, 21.54 from the Philippines and 8.09 from Thailand, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Labor (MOL).
