Petition to recall Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu reached more than 300,000


An estimated legal threshold for recognition of more than 300,000 signation for the petition to recall Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu.

The recall movement will wtill continue as the group would collect signatures and build public support. This is due to the stagnant or no development of the city of Kaohsiung under his leadership.

We Care Kaohsiung and its partners, Citizens Mowing Action and the Taiwan Statebuilding Party are the group calling for petition. 

Kaohsiung’s population has 2.28 million, the petition would require at least 228,000 signatures to gain legal credence, though it must be checked and all signatures must be valid. 

According to Taiwan's Civil Servants Election and Recall Act, petitioners must submit a recall proposal with the signatures of 1 percent of voters of the original electoral district and is followed by the submission of a petition containing the signatures of 10 percent of the voters then a poll must be held in which the official is recalled if at least 25 percent of eligible voters.
