DILG to suspend or dismiss barangay officials who neglect their duties amid COVID-19 crisis

The Department of the Interior and Local Government on Wednesday warned non-performing barangay officials of suspension or dismissal from the service if they are remiss in their duties under the prevailing enhanced community quarantine in Luzon to fight the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

DILG Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño reminded barangay officials of the President’s order for them to render service amid the enhanced community quarantine.

He also reminded them that “ang barangay ay serbisyo publiko at hindi negosyo’’ and called on those who have hidden agenda to resign and do their own business venturing ways as private citizens.

With the enhanced community quarantine, Diño said the entry and exit points at the borders of concerned areas will be restricted with all public transport and some works also suspended except for the few essential workforce and services.

Diño asked the public to remain home and for the commuters not covered by the exemptions not to even try crossing the restricted areas as the lockdown is necessary to prevent the spread of the virus.
