Philippines imposes mandatory rapid COVID-19 test to all returning OFWs


The Philippines now requires coronavirus rapid testing to all Filipino migrant workers returning to the country, said Inter-Agency Task Force on Tuesday (April 21).


Arriving overseas Filipino workers including seafarers even those migrant workers who were previously required to self-isolate must also undergo to a 14-day quarantine in a facility provided, according to task force spokesperson Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles.

"All arriving overseas Filipino workers, whether land-based or sea-based, shall be required to undergo a mandatory 14-day facility-based quarantine, and shall be subject to rapid antibody testing for COVID-19," said Nograles in a virtual press briefing.

Rapid testing for COVID-19 will also be subjected to Sea-based migrant workers who have been cleared by the Bureau of Quarantine at their point of departure.

The facilities and program that will be used will be determined by Department of Health and Bureau of Quarantine, said the Department of Foreign Affairs which has so far repatriated 16,682 OFWs.
