Telecoms Chunghwa and Far EasTone dominates Taiwan’s high-speed mobile internet


Chunghwa Telecom and Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET, aka IF) dominated Taiwan’s high-speed mobile internet and communications service market after several tests administered by the Telecom Technology Center.


The center’s engineers conducted three tests which includes: data download and upload speeds, download speed on transportation system, download time needed to download filed from Google Cloud.

The result showed Chunghwa topped other carriers in terms of the download speed measured at fixed locations in the nation’s 22 counties and cities while FET/IF ranked second in 20 counties and cities in download speed.

FET was ranked first in nine cities and counties in data upload speeds measured at fixed locations, including Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung and Kaohsiung, while Chunghwa was first in 13 cities and counties.


In Google Cloud downloads, Chunghwa and FET were ranked either first or second. Meanwhile, Taiwan Mobile fared better than its rival on the main Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) line.

The tests were conducted between June and October last year and results were announced last April 15. There were about 29.52 million 4G service subscribers in Taiwan as of Feb. 28, National Communications Commission data showed.
