Immigration offloads 100 OFWs bound to Kuwait as temporary travel ban in effect

Philippines' Bureau of Immigration has blocked 100 first time overseas Filipino workers (OFW) which were bound to Kuwait as temporary travel ban in effect which was ordered by the department.

The deployment ban covers new overseas Filipino workers and Balik-Manggagawa household service workers. Professional and skilled workers are not included in the ban.

“Even with the properly announced deployment ban, there are still some individuals who wanted to try their luck in leaving for Kuwait,” Ports Operations Division Chief Grifton Medina said in a statement.

In the memorandum, Bello instructed Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) chief Bernard Olalia to immediately convene the governing board for the implementation of the deployment ban on OFWs in Kuwait.

There were 10,000 to 20,000 first-time Filipino domestic helpers provide service to the households of Kuwaiti employers every year, according to the OWWA chief.
