Random stores sell overpriced face mask amid Taal ashfall, DTI to monitor retailers

Random retailer stores around the Taal Volcano and ashfall stricken areas sell face mask for overpriced amount. This activity irked lots of netizens with some selling as high as P40 per piece.

Responding to complaints of high prices of face masks, the Department of Trade and Industry dispatches teams to monitor and observe retailers.

In a statement, the DTI observed that some retailers are behind the sudden jump in prices of face masks and gas masks which are in high demand due to ashfall from the eruption of the Taal Volcano.

Meanwhile, science organization Agham Youth UP Diliman advises to use a damp cloth or towel as an alternative to those having difficulty finding this type of mask. (Photo by Paloma Isaac Vargas)
