30 teams composed of OFWs to battle it out in basketball tournament in Taiwan's Taichung

30 teams composed of Filipino migrant workers will battle it out for the winter basketball tournament that was launched Sunday (Dec 15) that was held in Taichung, Taiwan.

CIASI Taichung Winter Basketball League Season 1 had its opening ceremony and two-game schedule match for the maiden games. Hunders of Filipinos attend the opening, mostly overseas Filipino workers.

As a tradition to a Philippine basketball tournament opening, teams are judged and winners may take home the best in costume and best muse.

"We have members that are from Cagayan Valley, but most importantly it is our responsibility as overseas Filipinos to help our kababayan (countrymen) when they are in need," Rheden Delumen said, national chairman of CIASI in Taiwan told CNA.

CIASI, the Confederation of Ilocano Association, Inc., Samahang Ilocano, is an international Filipino organization with 13 chapters and a total of about 800 members in Taiwan. It describes its main mission as being to help unify Filipino communities through sports and cultural events, reported by CNA.
