Weiwuying in Kaohsiung is one of the World's 100 Greatest Places by Time Magazine

The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, also known as Weiwuying has been part of Time Magazine’s 2019 World's 100 Greatest Places. It is the very first structure in Taiwan to be named on the list.

Time magazine described it as "new home to the largest performing-arts center in the world under a single roof,". The base is a former Japanese military base turned into the first national theater in southern Taiwan.

Weiwuying recently opened in October 2018 following 15 years of construction and is designed by Dutch architectural firm Mecanoo.

World-class acts including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the German orchestra Berliner Philharmoniker already performed in the venue since its opening.

According to TIME magazine, the nominations have different categories from museums, parks, restaurants, and hotels. These are evaluated based on quality, originality, sustainability, innovation and influence.

Other places in the list includes Egypt's Red Sea Mountain Trail and Newseum in Washington, D.C.
