Taiwan to implement fine of up to NT$15,000 for not wearing a mask in public transport

To make donning of mask compulsory on public transport, Health and Welfare Minister  Chen Shih-Chung warns everyone that passengers who will insist not to wear masks could be fined from NT$3,000 to NT$15,000.

In a daily news conference of Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Friday, Chen advised anyone to wear face mask as protection against the new coronavirus.

Chen stated that a fine will follow if a maskless person refuse to wear a mask even if persuaded by a staff but details of when the measure will be introduced have not yet announced.

Earlier, Taipei City Deputy Mayor Huang Shan-shan said passengers who are not wearing mask must not be allowed to enter Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)  stations and buses.

Shen also wants to implement the measure on April 9,  the date each city resident will be allowed to buy nine masks once every two weeks.
