Philippines logs 103,185 COVID-19 cases with 5,032 new infections; marks highest single-day record so far


The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Sunday (August 2), that 5,032 more COVID-19 infections have been recorded in the Philippines bringing the total number of cases to 103,185.


In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the number of people who recovered from the contagious disease was increased by 301 resulting to a total of 65,557. Meanwhile, country's COVID-19 death toll climbed to 2,059, with 20 new fatalities recorded.

Among the total number of cases, 35,569 were tagged as active, of which 90.2 percent exhibited mild symptoms, 8.2 percent were asymptomatic, 1 percent were in severe condition and 0.7 percent were critical.

President Rodrigo Duterte will meet his Cabinet members later Sunday after healthworkers urged government to revert virus epicenter Metro Manila to enhanced community quarantine for 2 weeks, Malacañang said.
