High percentage of OFW in favor of the Absolute Divorce Bill


Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) around the world have high percentage which are in favor of the “Absolute Divorce Bill” according to Senator Pia Cayetano. There are now officials drafting the the divorce bill in the Philippine Senate.


“Kinarir ko nga ito. We went to Malaysia, we went to Hong Kong and we went to Japan to hear our OFWs in addition to all the Filipinos who are welcomed to attend our hearings, the letters we received grabe ang reaksyon (in favor of) divorce,” said Senator Cayetano.

Since OFW has social media as form of their communication to the Philippines, whenever the senator open up the topic about divorce many OFW respond to the topic and are asking for updates.


“Mag post lang ako ng kahit ano about divorce sa Facebook biglangang comments, Ma’am Pia yung divorce po natin kamusta na? Laging nandiyan yan…”

“They want to move on. We can judge them for not trying enough. What’s trying not hard enough? waiting for five years? Waiting for ten years? Waiting for 20?” added by the senator.

One OFW shares her sad story to the senator which in favor of the absolute divorce quoting:

“Yung isang OFW talagang umiyak siya nga 20 minutes nagkwento siya. Mga 15 years old palang siya pina live-in na siya ng nanay niya doon and then siya yung bumubuhay sa asawa niyang inom ng inom. Then umalis siya (papuntang) abroad to earn more money, may kinasama namang ibang babae, nagkaanak sa ibang babae (pero) siya pa rin nagsusustento,” says Cayetano.

In time, the divorce will be opened up for debate in the senate. Most OFW in favor if the divorce because having a spouse who are irresponsible as they to separate with them.
