DOLE advises Pinoys to postpone or cancel Hong Kong trips due to violence

The Department of Labor and Employment advises Filipinos to put their travel and trips to Hong Kong to hold off as clashes of violence between protesters and police continues.

"Mayroon kaming advisory, this is also joined by the Department of Foreign Affairs na 'yung mga pupunta sa Hong Kong, kung hindi naman masyado kailangan ang pagpunta nila doon ay i-postpone muna dahil this is not the best time to go to Hong Kong," Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said to GMA.

The labor secretary also assured that the Filipino workers there are safe, as Philippine Consulate General Raly Tejada in Hong Kong also gave the good news that OFW are safe.

"The situation is worsening but I'm very happy to say na wala pang nadadamay na Filipino overseas worker. Wala pang humihingi ng repatriation," Bello added.

Pro-democracy protesters continue to conduct activities at campuses, metro stations, and shopping malls. The Hong Kong protests has been raging on for months now since March.

"Hong Kong's rule of law has been pushed to the brink of total collapse," according to police spokesman Kong Wing-cheung.
