DOTr to possibly install cable car system from La Union to Baguio


In a statement from Baguio City government, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the summer capital of the Philippines Baguio City enter a memorandum of agreement to set up a cable car system connecting Pugo in La Union and Baguio City.


Both city and agency are exploring more alternative transport systems to ease road congestion as Baguio City a tourist spot. Apart from the cable car line, a train system among considering as options.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade ordered Undersecretary Mark Richmund De Leon to fast track the deal for the project, in a statement release by Baguio City mayor Benjamin Magalong.


Pugo in La Union and Baguio City are roughly an hour's drive away, spanning about 32 kilometers, a cable car system will help decongest the traffic entering the city.

The cable car system first studied in 2016 through a ₱26-million grant from the French government. A monorail system is also under watch that will link the City of Baguio and La Trinidad, Benguet which is famous for its strawberry farm.
