Senator Lapid filed bill to set up "OFW Help Desk" in all local government units


A bill filed bu Senator Lito Lapid that requires all local government units (LGUs) to set up Overseas Filipino Workers Family Help Desks in their offices.


Senate Bill No. 1094 or known as the proposed “OFW Help Desk Act” that will create and establish an OFW Family Help Desk that will address concerns of families of OFWs.

“It is the policy of the State to protect, strengthen and promote the total development of the family as a basic autonomous social institution and as the foundation of the nation,” Lapid said on a statement.


The bill also includes business counseling and livelihood opportunities. It covers all OFWs – sea or land-based, documented or undocumented.

LGUs must keep a database of the Philippine Overseas and Employment Agency (POEA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) on the updated list of overseas job orders and recruitment agencies.
