DOST Scholarship for 2023 now open for student applicants, offers good benefits and allowances

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) had opened the application for DOST Scholarship 2023 with good benefits for qualified students pursuing education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

DOST Scholarship Benefits:

A. Regular Academic Year
1. Tuition and other school fees (for scholars enrolled in private HEIs) ₱40,000.00 / year
2. Book Allowance ₱10,000.00 / year
3. Monthly Living Allowance ₱7,000.00 / month
4. Transportation Allowance (for those studying outside of home province)1 economy-class roundtrip fare
5. Group Health and Accident Insurance Premium
6. Thesis Allowance ₱10,000.00
7. Graduation Allowance ₱1,000.00

B. Summer Allowance (if required in the curriculum)
1. Tuition and other school fees ₱1,500.00
2. Book Allowance ₱500.00 (to submit Official Receipt)
3. Monthly Living Allowance ₱7,000.00 / month for two months

Who are qualified?

A. All graduating Grade 12 students who belong to the STEM class

B. Non-STEM students who belong to the top 5% of the graduating class

C. All Grade 12 students belonging to the STEM class who graduated before SY 2022-2023 but have not enrolled in college

D. All non-STEM students who belong to the top 5% of the graduating class who graduated before SY 2022-2023, but have not enrolled in college

E. Graduates of high school before the K-12 program who belong to the top 5% of the graduating class

F. Must have grades in Grade 9, 10, and 11 or scores in the Philippine Education Placement Test Certificate of Rating if skipped a grade

G. Must be a natural-born Filipino citizen

H. Must be of good moral character and in good health

I. May have taken the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination but did not qualify for the scholarship

J. May have taken the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination but did not avail of the award

K. Must not have earned any post-secondary (college or vocational) units

DSWD, pinagaaralan ang "one-time, big-time" cash aid payout sa educational assistance

Pinag-aaralan ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) ang posibleng one time big time na pamamahagi ng educational cash aid kahit na matapos ang anim na linggong payout sa Setyembre 24.

'DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo is studying it. Since there are many applicants, we might have a one-time big time payout. But the Sept. 24 remains as is – our last payout date for the P1.5-billion allocation. If there are any funds left, we will come up with guidelines," ayon kay DSWD spokesman Romel Lopez.

Ayon sa ahensya ay mas kukuha sila ng beneficiaries ng education assistance doon sa mga students na walang access sa internet.

"If we will be getting beneficiaries outside the two million applications we received online, it will be those who do not have access to the internet or gadgets. It’s very unlikely that we will accept new applicants," dagdag ni Lopez.

Nauna nang sinabi ni Tulfo na makikipag-usap siya kay Speaker Martin Romualdez para sa posibleng pakikipag-ayos sa mga mambabatas ng distrito upang masakop ang tulong para sa educational assistance.

Sa ilalim ng programa, aabot sa tatlong estudyante sa bawat indigent family ang maaring makatanggap ng cash aid na nagkakahalaga ng P1,000 para sa elementary students, P2,000 para sa high school students, P3,000 para sa senior high school students, at P4,000 para sa tertiary students.

Tulfo, sinigurado na walang nangyaring palakasan sa DSWD Educational Assistance

Tiniyak ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) sa publiko na walang palakasan sa pamamahagi ng financial assistance sa mga mahihirap na estudyante sa bansa. 

Ayon kay Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo, hindi niya hahayaan na mangyari ito. 

“Huwag ho kayong matakot. Maraming natakot na baka mamili na naman, mapulitika na naman,” pahayag ni Tulfo. 

“Ang DSWD ang mag-i-interview sa inyo at DSWD national ang magbabayad sa inyo, hindi ang local government. Walang palakasan dito,” dagdag pa niya. 

Nauna nang sinabi ni DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos na tutulong sa DSWD ang mga lokal na pamahaalan matapos magka-aberya ang unang araw ng pamamahagi ng ayuda kada Sabado. 

Samantala, tiniyak naman ni Secretary Tulfo na pagche-check lamang ng dokumento ang magiging trabaho ng mga LGU. 

“After that, pag dumaan na sa kanila, then kami na ang bahala. Kami ang mag-iinterview… After that, dun na siya sa payout master, sa paymaster namin,” sinabi ni Tulfo. 

“Ang target namin, within 10 minutes pagkapasok ay makalabas na siya kasi less na yung documentation at yung mga questions para mabilis yung beneficiary,” dagdag pa niya.

Tulfo, DSWD isinara ang mga links para sa online registration ng educational assistance

Binanggit ang limited budget na P1.5 bilyon, sinabi ni Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo na kailangan nilang isara ang online registration para sa educational assistance dahil dalawang milyong benepisyaryo lamang ang kanilang kayang tanggapin.

Itinigil ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) ang pagtanggap ng online applications para sa educational assistance nito sa mga mahihirap na estudyante dahil sa limitadong pondo, sabi ni DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo.

Sinabi ni Tulfo na kinailangan ng ahensya na isara ang online applications para sa DSWD-AICS dahil mayroon itong limitadong budget na P1.5 bilyon lamang.

"The application for educational assistance is now closed. We are no longer able to accommodate beyond the two million registrants," sabi ni Tulfo sa isang interview.

"We are monitoring the payout from our fund for the program worth P1.5 billion," dagdag ni Tulfo.

Sinabi ni Tulfo na itinakda ng ahensya ang Setyembre 24, 2022 bilang huling pagbinigay nito ng educational assistance para sa tulong pang-edukasyon.

Mga nakapagregister sa educational assistance ng DSWD, umabot na ng lampas 2-milyon

Umabot na sa 2 milyon ang nagparehistro para sa educational assistance, ayon sa Department of Social Welfare Development o DSWD.

Pero sabi ng kagawaran, hindi lahat ng nagparehistro tiyak na makatatangap ng tulong. 'Di na raw kasi sasapat ang pondo para sa bilang ng benepisyaryo.

Hindi pa rin naman isinasara ang mga registration link ng DSWD, napupuno lamang ang database kaya nagmumukhang close na ito ayon sa DSWD. Patuloy pa din tatangap ang DSWD ng registration sa mga ibinigay na mga links.

Lubos naman ang pagkadismaya ng ilang netizens dahil marami ang umaasa sa educational assistance program.

"Dapat patas lahat dahil malaking tulong nadin sa mga bata ngayon.lang nanyare sa mga pumapasok na.may ganyan ayuda..dumaan lahat tayu sa pandemic dapat pantay pantay lahat sana.mabigyan...paano.dito.sa.pangasinan.kong wla na.pondo...dami umaasa," saad ni Benjo Soriano.

Lapid filed bill to ban selling of junk foods and sugary drinks in schools

Senator Lito Lapid is legislating the permanent ban on selling junk foods and sugary drinks in schools and promote healthy meals for students.

In Lapid's Senate Bill 1231, it aims to establish a Healthy Food and Beverage Program that aims to prohibit the sale, distribution and promotion of junk foods and sugary drinks inside schools and in stores that are 100 meters away from schools.

When it becomes a law, it will be implemented in all elementary and secondary schools.

The proposal also promotes healthy and proper food for learners, teachers and non-teaching personnels.

Lapid emphasized that healthy food plays an important role in the learning and cognitive development of students especially and in some studies it has been found that students who do not eat enough nutrition have difficulty learning, low scores  grades and some are forced to drop out of school.

"Healthy eating plays an important role in learning and cognitive development. Studies show that children who do not get adequate nutrients experience more difficulty in learning from school leading to lower academic test scores, or worse, tend to drop out of school," Lapid said.

"Ensuring the availability of food that are high in nutritional content will not only promote better health but also better learning," the senator added.

DSWD, pinagiisipan ang "offsite payout" para sa mga hindi nakapagregister online

Sinabi ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) na pinag-iisipan nila ang offsite payout system para sa mga mahihirap na estudyante na hindi makapagparehistro online para sa educational assistance program dahil sa kawalan ng access sa internet o gadgets.

Sinabi ni DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez na maglalaan sila ng partikular na guidelines para sa house-to-house distribution ng cash aid.

"When it comes to those who don’t have access to internet, to gadgets, we will come up with guidelines, most probably offsite payouts," ayon kay Lopez sa isang interview.

"Remember during the pandemic, the DSWD social workers, nag-bahay bahay na," dagdag niya.

Nagpaplano rin na magdagdag ng higit pang mga payout center sa mga lungsod at munisipalidad upang mapagsilbihan ang mas maraming estudyante sa mga sitwasyon ng krisis.

May sapat na mga social workers ang DSWD para mag-assess sa mas maraming payout centers at na ang mga LGU ay nag-commit din sa kanilang mga social welfare officers na magsagawa ng mga inisyal na screening.
