The spread could've been prevented but we see that some people, including persons in authority, have started to become lax in the enforcement and practice of minimum health protocols," ayon kay Belmonte base sa report ng CNN.

PNoy on critics who called him ‘abnoy’ : I prayed for them

Former President Benigno Aquino III reflected on the ups and downs of the job, including being called names by his detractors, in an exclusive interview with GMA News a month before the end of his tenure in 2016.

"Abnoy" was one among the insulting nicknames thrown at Aquino, while "noynoying" came to signify inactivity. He prayed for those who mocked him and called him various names.

"At the end of the day, we have to make a choice. The time is limited and we cannot spend it on people who have close minds," Former President Aquino said.

“Whenever some of my colleagues are bothered by it, I tell them to not mind those who call me names. We should just continue to work, Especially when the insult is based on my name, that's absence of any substance. To be honest, I might have prayed for them.”

Aquino was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m. owing to kidney failure linked to diabetes, according to a statement delivered by his sister Pinky Aquino-Abellada on Thursday afternoon at Heritage Park.

Aquino worked in the Legislative Department before ascending to the highest office in the Philippines in 2010. He served in the House of Representatives representing Tarlac's second district from 1998 to 2007, following which he ran for senator and served in the Upper House from 2007 to 2010.

Kaya inoffer ko sa kanya yung breastmilk ko because this is the best thing I know I could offer to the innocent little one.

If you see them, please don’t judge on them directly. Please help them. "

Philippines may scrap "mask policy" comes Christmas per expert

Maskless Christmas could be possible if herd immunity will be achieved according to OCTA Research molecular biologist Fr. Nicanor Austriaco.

The priest-scientist said if there will be enough vaccine supplies by September and October, the NCR Plus 8 areas may achieve containment by October and herd immunity by November.

NCR Plus 8 areas include Metro Manila, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao.

33 million vaccine doses should be given to 40 to 50% of NCR Plus 8 population, Austriaco explained.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque agrees.

“Kaya nga po we are aiming for population protection or yung containment na sinasabi ni Fr. That is what we’re aiming for. Tama po si Fr. Austriaco, a mask-less Christmas,” Roque said in a press briefing.

5,000 Taiwan-bound OFWs stranded, travel restrictions due to COVID-19 still up in the air

Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) ordered to defer the entry of migrant workers leading about 5,000 Taiwan-bound Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) stranded.

Due to the sudden increase in COVID-19 infections in Taiwan, no quarantine facilities are available for incoming migrant workers.

“They hope the Level 3 restriction will lower the local transmission. The restrictions are being strictly complied with here in Taiwan. Hopefully, this situation is very temporary,” Philippine representative to Taiwan Gilbert Lauengco told CNN.

“It can be mitigated if there will be more available quarantine facilities because according to the Taiwan government, it is more than willing to lessen the deferment of foreign migrant workers if there will be additional quarantine facilities,” Gilbert Lauengco added.

All affected Filipino migrant workers to Taiwan were advised to coordinate with their respective agencies through the Labor Department and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration for immediate assistance.

ASE came under close watch for forcing migrant workers back to dorms amid outbreak

Taiwan company Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) in Chungli, Taoyuan ordered migrant workers to return to company from their private rented apartment to the its dormitories or face penalties, despite the country's ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

The published story came from the international British newspaper The Guardian. Three such demerits are punishable by dismissal, The Guardian's report said.

ASE employees told The Guardian that they share bathroom facilities with workers on different shifts or workers from other companies at company dormitories.

Migrant workers believe that forcing them to live in the dormitories puts them at greater risk of contracting COVID-19 than if they stayed in their own homes and practiced social distancing.

A spokeswoman for ASE defended the company's new policy, arguing it is intended "to protect them from further exposure outside, as well as to prevent cross-infections."

The spokeswoman said the dormitories are regularly disinfected, and the company is arranging more dormitory accommodation with the goal of keeping the number of individuals per room to four, CNA reported.

Doctor in New Taipei believed to be the first physician to die from COVID-19

A doctor practicing medicine in New Taipei City's Sanchong District has died from COVID-19, becoming possibly the first physician to die from the disease in Taiwan.

The doctor, who was in his 70s, recently developed shortness of breath and coughing after receiving his first AstraZeneca jab on May 31, Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) spokesman Chuang Jen-hsiang said at a press briefing on Thursday.

He was found unconscious at his home by family members on Wednesday evening and was immediately rushed to National Taiwan University Hospital that day, Chuang said, adding that the doctor died on the way there.

A post-mortem examination showed that he had been infected with COVID-19. It was not immediately clear whether he became infected with the coronavirus before or after he took his first vaccine dose.

According to the CECC official, the doctor had a history of chronic disease, including hypertension and diabetes.

The New Taipei Department of Health said the doctor lived in Taipei but operated a clinic in Sanchong, and that it was still tracing the people who recently came into contacts with him, including the patients he saw at the clinic prior to his death. -Central News Agency
