Cebu Pacific's 200 Millionth Passenger, rewarded one year unlimited free domestic travel

Budget carrier Cebu Pacific just awarded a year’s worth of unlimited domestic travel to its 200 millionth customer.

It was Cebu Pacific president and CEO Lance Gokongwei, garbed in a Cebu Pac FA uniform, who made the announcement via the plane’s PA system.

“We are excited to safely fly everyJuan to their destinations so they could reunite with their families and loved ones, or pursue their business interests, or revisit tourist destinations. It is encouraging to see and feel travel confidence returning.  We thank our passengers for their continued trust, and we will endeavor to live true to our promise of providing safe, affordable, and accessible air travel for every Juan,” said Gokongwei. 

In light of looser travel restrictions and the peak summer season, Cebu Pacific is expecting a full restoration of its pre-COVID-19 pandemic domestic flight capacity. 

Cebu Pacific said it recorded a 200% increase in its average daily flights for both domestic and international combined—from about 100 flights per day in 2020 to about 300 at present.

“Ipatigil na talaga iyang online sabong o kaya ibalik na ‘yung dati na parang sa isang area na lang pwede ang tumaya. Para siyang drugs na maya’t maya hahanapin mo kapag meron ka,” dagdag ni CJ.

Bulkang Taal sumabog muli, itinaas na sa Alert Level 3

Itinaas ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) sa Alert Level 3 ang status ng bulkang Taal matapos ang isang "phreatomagmatic eruption."

“At 0722H PST, Taal Volcano Main Crater generated a short-lived phreatomagmatic burst which was followed by nearly continuous phreatomagmatic activity that generated plumes 1500 m accompanied by volcanic earthquake and infrasound signals,” ayon sa Phivolcs.

Sinabi ng mga seismologist ng Philvolcs na ang pagtaas ng status sa Alert Level 3 ay nangangahulugan na mayroong "magmatic intrusion at the Main Crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions.”

Pinayuhan ng Phivolcs ang mga residente ng baranggay Bilibinwang, Banyaga, Agoncillo, Boso-boso, Gulod at Bugaan East sa Laurel, Batangas na lumikas dahil sa posibleng panganib.

Idineklara na ang buong isla ng Taal Volcano bilang permanenteng danger zone.

Lahat ng aktibidad sa Taal Lake at malapit dito ay kasalukuyang hindi pinapayagan, babala pa ng ahensya.

Taiwan in need of English teachers, salary up to NT$62,720 or arounf P115k monthly

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has announced that Taiwan is in need of English teachers. Those who were selected, monthly salary offer is up to NT$62,720 or the equivalent around P115,000.00.

Up to 450 teaching positions will be opened by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of Taiwan for foreigners who will teach in primary and secondary public schools by the year 2022.

It is part of the Taiwan government's plan to make English as their secondary language by 2030.

Under the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program (TFETP), in addition to the salary of NT$62,720, other benefits includes travel subsidy and health insurance.

DOLE said in a statement that it would depend on the educational attainment of the teacher.

Applicants must be fluent in English, have a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree and no criminal record.

Although it is no longer included as a requirement, it will help if the applicant has a license or teaching credentials.

Canada to provide more jobs to Filipinos: DOLE

Philippine Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said it will increase job opportunities for more Filipinos in Canada.

Bello is in Canada to sign bilateral labor agreements on jobs for Filipinos in Ontario and the Yukon.

"This will create a lot of work destinations for our workers.  Canada has good employment terms," Bello said.

"They offer to hire workers from our country because Filipinos are skilled and reliable," Bello added.

Bello also said that he was supposed to sign a memorandum of understanding with the province of Prince Edward, but some aspects were not ironed out.

Foreign workers in Canada can also obtain a resident visa.

Taiwan to add more migrant workers to its agricultural sector

Around 1,300 overseas migrant workers to be employed in Taiwan's agricultural sector will begin arriving in Taiwan over the next two weeks, an official from the Council of Agriculture (COA) said Monday.

Tsai Pei-chun, an official at the COA's Department of Farmers' Service, told CNA that of Taiwan's quota of 2,400 migrant workers for the agricultural sector, just over 1,000 slots have already been filled by workers who have been in Taiwan for years.

Around 20 migrant workers contracted to work in the sector have arrived in Taiwan since Feb. 15, when Taiwan lifted its entry ban on workers from the Philippines and Vietnam.

Because of quarantine-related arrangements, however, most of the remaining 1,300 foreign nationals set to work in Taiwan's agricultural sector will begin to arrive over the next two weeks, Tsai said.

Once they arrive, Taiwan will have 1,000 migrant workers employed in animal husbandry, 180 employed at inland fish farms, 920 employed in seasonal work, and 300 in farming, Tsai said.

Taiwan banned the entry of Indonesian migrant workers in December 2020 in response to a surge in COVID-19 cases imported from the Southeast Asian country.

On May 19, 2021, Taiwan banned the entry of all foreign nationals without residency, including migrant workers, following an unprecedented spike in domestic COVID-19 cases in Taiwan.

The bans on migrant workers from Indonesia and Thailand were lifted on Nov. 11 and Dec. 30 last year, but the number of workers allowed in were reduced between Dec. 14 and Feb. 14 due to limited quarantine space approaching the Lunar New Year holidays.

The bans on migrant workers from Philippines and Vietnam were lifted Feb. 15, and Taiwan also began requiring all migrant workers to be fully vaccinated before arriving in the country. -Central News Agency

Duterte, inapruba ang P200 montly ayuda para sa mga mahihirap na pamilya

Inaprubahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang pagbibigay ng P200 buwanang allowance o "ayuda" para sa mahihirap na kabahayan sa loob ng isang buong taon upang mabawasan ang epekto ng pagtaas ng presyo ng petrolyo.

Sinabi ni acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar na inaprubahan ni Duterte ang dalawang rekomendasyon ng Department of Finance (DOF).

"Una, ang pag-retain ng fuel excise taxes na ini-impose ng TRAIN [Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion] Law dahil ang pagsuspende nito ay magre-reduce ng government revenue ng P105.9 billion na magpopondo sa mga programa ng pamahalaan..." Andanar said.

"...at pangalawa, ang pagbibigay ng targeted subsidies ng P200 bawat household to the bottom 50% of Filipino households,” Andanar added.

Iminungkahi ni Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III ang pagbibigay ng P200 buwanang subsidy para sa mahihirap sa loob ng isang buong taon. Inirekomenda rin niya na panatilihin ang excise tax sa gasolina.

Aminado si Dominguez na maaaring hindi sapat ang halagang ito ngunit ipinunto niya na ito ang kayang ibigay ng gobyerno sa ngayon.

Ang target na subsidies ay aabot sa P33.1 bilyon sa budgetary requirements, ayon kay Dominguez.

President Rodrigo Duterte will support the presidential candidate with the letter “O” in the name, according to Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, acting presidential spokesperson.

This is Andanar's answer when asked if the president will support the presidential bets.

There are 10 presidential candidates running in 2022: former presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella, labor leader Leody de Guzman, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, former national security adviser Norberto Gonzales.

Andanar also said that Duterte has no problem getting a presidential candidate with the letter "O" in his name to work.

Former factory worker, now owns a unli-wings restaurant

A former factory worker in Bulacan exert effort, overcame the hardship in life and now started his own reataurant business.

In the "Pera-Paraan" program, Ronell Igcasenza's unli-chicken wings restaurant, Zab's Crib, is said to be a popular restaurant in Baliuag, Bulacan.

But before becoming a successful resto owner, Ronell first took a job as the eldest of four siblings, and to help the family.

This includes being a factory worker in a window and door factory for which he used to earn only the minimum wage.

For a small salary, his grandmother sometimes even gave him money. Ronell tried another racket until he decided to try to apply as a call center agent in the BPO industry.

After 10 trials, he was fortunate to be accepted. It was here that he began to be able to establish and continue to help his family.

"Kapag nire-recall ko po yung buhay namin noong araw, sobrang hirap talaga. Parang isang kahig-isang tuka kami noong araw," Ronell said.

"Kaya ngayon po kapag nakikita namin yung sarili naming magkakapatid, mga nakatapos po ng pag-aaral, kasi nagtulong-tulungan kaming magkakapatid, parang ang sarap po sa pakiramdam," he added.

High fever from COVID-19 vaccine means more antibodies: Japan research

According to research by two hospitals in this southwestern Japan city, people who develop a fever after their second COVID-19 vaccine shot show greater antibody levels.

"The higher the fever, the more effective vaccination is," Kyushu University Hospital and Fukuoka City Hospital said antibodies tend to follow the same pattern for those getting their third booster shot.

Higher levels of atibodies were seen in people who developed a fever.

Those with higher fevers tended to have higher antibody levels. Individuals presenting a fever of 38 degrees Celsius or higher had on average 1.8 times the antibodies of those who remained below 37 C

"Adequate antibody levels were obtained regardless of whether a fever developed, but people who had them also had higher antibody levels," said Yong Chong, professor at the Department of Medicine and Biosystemic Science, Kyushu University Faculty of Medicine.

"No matter the side effects one develops, they can be treated with an antipyretic analgesic, which will not compromise vaccine efficacy. We want people to feel safe and get vaccinated," the professor added.

OWWA, needs to pay as much as P1Billion to hotels used as quarantine facilities by OFWs

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) owes up to P1 billion to hotels used as quarantine facilities by returning overseas Filipino workers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to OWWA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, they have already talked to the Philippine Hotel Owners Association (PHOA) about the said debt.

It has not been paid yet because the funds are still awaited from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

According to Cacdac, OWWA has P11.4 billion in the DBM. Since 2020, the government has reportedly spent up to P20 billion on hotel accommodation for OFWs.

Cacdac also clarified to the hotel lovers that they will continue to pay even during the election.

TSMC to hire more than 8,000 people for the expansion of its production

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, launched a large-scale campus recruitment campaign on Saturday, aiming to hire more than 8,000 professionals this year at a time when the local semiconductor industry has aggressively expanded production capacity to meet global demand, with many companies competing for skilled workers.

According to TSMC, the company has offered competitive compensation and the average annual salary for a newly recruited engineer with a master's degree is expected to hit as high as NT$2 million.

TSMC said the company is eyeing talent in a wide range of areas, including electronics, electrical engineering, optoelectronics, physics, materials, chemical, information engineering, information management, industrial management, financial management and human resources.
