Seasonal influenza reached 90 death toll in Taiwan, claim lives of 15 people last week


15 people died of seasonal influenza in Taiwan last week (2nd week of February 2020), bringing the death toll to 90 since last October 2019 according to Centers for Disease Control (CDC).


None of the 15 individuals who died last week had been vaccinated against flu, while 14 of them had chronic diseases, CNA reported.

The youngest victim who died last week was a 30-year-old woman from northern Taiwan which due to from complications of myocarditis caused by the flu.

From Feb. 9 to Feb. 15, a total of 60,704 people sought medical treatment for flu-like symptoms at hospitals and clinics around the country according to CDC Epidemic Intelligence Center Deputy Director Guo Hung-wei.

There are still 165,000 doses of government-subsidized flu vaccines still available according to CDC.
